Rojo set to train with Estudiantes

According to a recent report from Estudiantes themselves, Manchester United have given Marcos Rojo permission to train with the Argentine club. The 29 year old Rojo first joined United back in 2014, and despite an initially strong start to life at Old Trafford, he hasn’t quite been able to maintain his consistency in the last few years. His last appearance for the club came back in December, when they lost to Valencia in the Champions League. In total he has only played three games this season, heightening the rumours that he could be destined for a move away. Rojo began his journey in football with Estudiantes at the youth level, signing for them way back in 2000. He spent 11 years with the club before moving to Spartak Moscow, which eventually led him to Sporting Lisbon.

Lampard opens up on Chelsea departure: Unless you win back-to-back titles, you´re likely to be sacke

Frank Lampard has opened up on his Chelsea departure and says only winning back-to-back titles would have prevented him from being sacked.

Chelsea parted ways with club legend Lampard in January, 18 months into his second managerial job, and went on to win the Champions League under successor Thomas Tuchel.

Lampard finished fourth in the Premier League and reached the FA Cup final in his only full campaign at Stamford Bridge, despite having to operate under a transfer ban that saw him promote a number of youngsters to the first team.

But the 43-year-old was made to pay for a poor run of form in the middle of last season and was sacked with the club ninth after 19 games.

Discussing the circumstances surrounding his exit on Gary Neville s The Overlap Y…

Manchester City v Liverpool: Klopp and Guardiola face off with tables turned

He would have to reflect on back-to-back losses against Crystal Palace and Leicester City and a damaged Premier League title defence for a little longer, but Pep Guardiola leaned mischievously forward on his desk and broke

into a grin.

Speaking ahead of Sunday s restorative 3-1 win over Southampton, the Manchester City manager was asked whether the playing philosophy he was told would struggle under Premier League scrutiny – only to yield 100 points last term– might be due for a rethink during this mid-season turbulence.

Oh, I was waiting for that question, he said before adding, with a deliberate head shake: That is not going to happen.

No way. Why should I change? Because I lost two games? No way – that is not going to happen.

Wes Morgan has signed a new contract extension with Leicester City. The club has confirmed that the experienced centre-back has committed to another year, as the one-season extension was activated. His contract was in danger of running out in June, but now he is tied to the club until 2020.

Morgan has turned 35 in January and has made 293 appearances for Leicester since joining in 2012 from Nottingam Forest. Morgan, thus, claims he is delighted to continue his stay at the King Power Stadium.

It means a lot to me. We’ve been through so many ups and downs together as a football club, he told the club s website. …

Inesta proves he leaves Barca on his own terms after final Clasico

In any profession, dropping something while still excelling is a bold move but one that invariably enriches a legacy, something Andres Iniesta will undoubtedly feel after playing in El Clasico for the final time.

Having already wrapped up the league title and the Copa del Rey, in some senses the second LaLiga Clasico of the season had an air of irrelevance about it.

But it gave the world one last chance to see the great Iniesta in the biggest rivalry in club football, as he prepares to depart for China 14 years after first appearing in the fixture as a substitute for Henrik Larsson.

Having recovered from the knock that made him a doubt for the game, Iniesta trudged out of the tunnel as shyly as ever for his 38th Clasico – every camera, every eye fixed on him li…

Messi, Neymar and Mbappe? I don´t know how to stop them – Guardiola

Pep Guardiola freely admitted he has no master plan in mind to contain Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe when Manchester City meet Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

Assuming Messi is fit to feature, this match will be the first time he has gone up against his former boss Guardiola since the six-time Ballon d Or winner departed Barcelona in August.

Although Messi was handed his Barca breakthrough by Frank Rijkaard, it was under Guardiola that he truly established himself among the best in the world.

He featured 47 times for Guardiola in the Champions League, 18 more than for any other coach, and scored 43 times at an average of one every 92 minutes — among managers he has played more than two games for in the competition, he has only netted with greater frequ…

Koke: Atletico preparing to fire ´last bullet´

Koke has described Saturday s match against Barcelona as Atletico Madrid s last bullet as they seek to prolong LaLiga s title race.

Reigning champions and leaders Barca are eight points clear of second-placed Atleti, with just seven more matches of the league season to come after the crunch meeting at Camp Nou.

Diego Simeone s side, surprise Liga champions in 2013-14, continue to punch above their weight in competing with Barca and Real Madrid for major honours.

And Spain international Koke, while acknowledging the odds are stacked against his side, is determined to keep fighting for as long as possible.

We will go with everything we have to win the game, it s our last bullet, the midfielder told beIN Sports.

In the last few years we ve been at …

Denmark v Australia: Socceroos confident of reaching last 16

Tomi Juric and Australia are still confident of progressing to the knockout stages of the World Cup in Russia after the Socceroos almost shocked France on matchday one.

Bert van Marwijk s players were unfortunate to step off the field emptyhanded in Kazan, where Australia were beaten 2-1 by an underwhelming France side in Group C last week.

VAR came to the aid of Les Bleus in controversial circumstances as Antoine Griezmann converted a second-half penalty following a challenge from Josh Risdon, while goal-line technology sealed Australia s fate after an impressive performance against the World Cup contenders.

Australia showed they can match it with the best as they prepare to face Denmark in Samara on Thursday and striker Juric remains optimistic about the Soccer…
