data-mm-id=”_sesaxevnd”>College football, an American institution, is under attack by a global pandemic. On Get Up this morning, Paul Finebaum was asked about the possibility of college football being played without fans in the stands. Finebaum said it would be the end of college football as we know it because it would mean abandoning any semblance of amateurism."I think it would be the end of college football as we know it … from what I hear, I do not believe college presidents and commissioners would go for this."—@finebaum on the possibility of college football being played without fans pic.twitter.com/znWfseD7TO— Get Up (@GetUpESPN) April 16, 2020Maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing. Earlier today, Greg McElroy said that college football, "has to be played." Football, college, pro or otherwise, does not HAVE to be played. It is not being played right now. It might not be played this fall. What we're learning right now is that there are a lot of things that don't have to happen. It sucks. People are losing jobs. People are sick and dying and the only way to stop it is to stop everyday life. Some things are essential. College football is not. If there's anything in sports that could use a complete shake up or tear down, it is the NCAA system. The infrastructure for all these sports. The equipment, the facilities, they won't magically go away. They can come back when the money comes back. That's the reality for most of the country right now. And it really sucks.Missing one football season would also suck, but if kids don't go back to school, they can't play football. Yeah, NCAA football generates the majority of sports money, but if kids don't go back to school, then there are no other fall sports to pay for anyway. And no regular start for winter sports.Maybe testing and a vaccine make it possible to get kids back on campuses for the spring semester. The NCAA could still get March Madness and the spring sports that were canceled over the last month. Hell, you could play football in the spring, as Laura Rutlidge said was a possibility, and Chris Fowler said last week. "I actually think it's becoming more and more likely that we could see a spring football season beginning sometime in January, maybe February, and then going through early May."—@LauraRutledge pic.twitter.com/xuhVUOj23y— Get Up (@GetUpESPN) April 16, 2020Rushing into any of this will not help anyone. The money will eventually come back, but it's going to take some time. Just like with the American and World economies, money will again be generated and spent and football stadiums will be packed on Saturdays in the fall, but it should not be a priority. If it must be a priority, well then we just had a $6 trillion economic stimulus package passed last month that a ton of businesses already missed out on. The NCAA has an annual revenue of around a billion dollars. If that's all it takes for the NCAA to do things as they currently do, while refusing to pay the players who account for most of that money, the government can surely allocate a billion bucks in the next stimulus package to save the NCAA and let them go on with business as usual. Otherwise, they're going to have to start all over. Maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing.

It was announced that Keshi would take charge for Nigeria s opening two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers before discussing a new contract but after those games a 3-2 defeat to Congo and a 0-0 draw with South Africa his situation remains unclear.

The first contacts were established few months ago and they have been intensified now that the January transfer window draws closer.
Besiktas do not want to wait until the summer when the player’s contract is due to expire, but would rather sign him in January and thus improve their chances of winning the Super Lig title race.
Tiene and his representatives will attempt to persuade PSG officials to terminate his contract in the coming weeks so that the defender would be able to move on a free transfer in January.

Esteban Cambiasso s bizarre own goal gave West Brom a 1-0 win as Leicester City extended their winless Premier League run to five matches.
The toothless hosts struggled to make the most of their chances against Alan Irvine s men on Saturday, with Jamie Vardy in particular guilty of spurning a couple of good opportunities.
But ultimately they were undone by an error two minutes into the second period when Cambiasso inadvertently directed Wes Morgan s clearance into his own net.
Andy King could have earned Leicester a draw in the final 15 minutes but he headed straight at goalkeeper Ben Foster as Leicester s struggles continued.

Lyon manager Claude Puel promised a match with extra spice against Marseille in the French Cup on Wednesday compared to the bland goalless draw in the league before Christmas.
Lyon thrashed fifth-tier Concarneau 6-0 at the weekend to qualify for this last 32 fixture which will also act as a litmus test for both teams championship credentials.
This will be a no-holds barred cup match, said Puel.
The 0-0 draw in the league (on December 14 in Lyon) was a good result for Marseille who did not have to push themselves.
We were very lacklustre in that match, just four days after a Champions League game and we had been too tired to go for it against Marseille. This time, both teams will be fresher and that should make for a match with more spice.

Looking to extend on their FA Cup adventure at the second attempt in midweek, Norwich will make the trip to Bristol Rovers on Wednesday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Bristol Rovers might have sprung an upset away at Carrow Road last week as they snatched a 1-1 draw, it is fair to say that the Pirates are seeking some recent stability. Knowing that they still face a real uphill battle in their bid to punch a shock play-off charge in 2024, Matt Taylor’s side have recorded just a pair of wins from their previous six appearances across all competitions. Failing to pick up any kind of momentum over the weekend as they slumped to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Barnsley, Bristol Rovers will certainly be excited to make a …
Equatorial Guinea saved the day by stepping in as hosts of the Africa Cup of Nations, but their preparations have been far from ideal.

And inexperienced Argentinian Becker has his work cut out to match Equatorial Guinea s AFCON 2012 run to the quarter-finals.
